Nurturing your baby means feeding, loving, comforting and caring for your baby to ensure that he grows happily and healthily.  Early Nurture provides information and support to help you achieve your goals and to assist with the early days of getting to know your new addition to the family.

A new baby, especially a first baby doesn't come with an instruction book, and even if he did - could you be sure that he'd read it too?!

When you discover that you are expecting your new addition, the focus tends very much to be on the actual delivery.  Even though you may have been to classes or read the books you often don't take on board anything further on than the first hurdle of the birth you your baby. - Then it happens - it hits you - what do you know? Can you remember what you read or that you were taught? Perhaps your baby isn't 'text book' how do you deal with him? How do you know if he's hungry or wet? Is he crying because he wants comfort or a nappy change?

Early Nurture provides Breastfeeding information, home visits to ensure that feeding is going well, breastfeeding classes to provide information ante natally or when you want to return to work or introduce solids; or a doula to visit you every day for a few hours for the first few weeks to help and guide you on all these issues, as well as a shoulder or listening ear to encourage, support and back you up.

Nobody would give you a set of car keys and a highway code and expect you to go and drive a car without having lessons or instructions or practical help, so it's natural that you might need this same sort of lessons or practical help when you've got a new baby.

WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK 1-8th AUGUST

KANGAROO CARE
Oh tiny baby a few minutes old,
All bundled up to fight off the cold.
Kangaroo care or skin-to-skin,
Much more resembles the past world within.
Before I take a needed rest,
I want to place you on my chest.
This will calm you and help you grow,
Keep you safe from things unknown.
This world is so big to one so small,
My breathing and heartbeat you can recall.
Skin-to-skin and close to my heart,
In my memory forever will never part.
Although life's not easy, I can attest,
Yours will be healthier when fed at the breast.
This new phenomenon called Kangaroo Care,
Has been with us forever; we weren't aware.
So rest little one close to my heart,
And know you are loved right from the start.
— Sandra D. Brown, RN, IBCLC
